Nick VerhoevenAs a software developer after my study, I was always interested in all kinds of new functionality. After +/- 15 years of working as a developer, I've realised that researching, attending training courses and doing proof of concepts is not the best way for me to keep my interest in all new things. I enjoy building things and solving problems much more.

That's why I started my own blog. To be honest writing blogs isn't really my thing. Writing code with a purpose and using all sorts of techniques that I want to learn more about is what I like. Writing a blog and writing the code works for me.

Development

For my blog I've used Mads Kristensen MiniBlog as a base, any changes I've made can be found at #MiniBlog. I used this as a base because it is a small .NET project that has everything in it. Also because after following sessions of Mads Kirstensen at tech conferences he always did showed new things, focused on performance and making things better, also this time in his MiniBlog project.

As a developer myself, I mainly focus on web development, using .NET, C#, MSSQL and all sorts of things in Azure. Of coure, as a web developer I also use HTML, JavaScript and (S)CSS.

Personal

To make it a bit more personal, I will be write about my interests and hobbies. I like to ride on a mountain bike or a road bike and I like to be in nature. I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, like cycling to work, eating vegan diet and using only organic products, but I'm not perfect, I still take my car to go mountain biking. I will be sharing my favourite recipes, things I do to try to reduce the amount of waste I create and some of what I think are the nicest places to cycle.
